The Armie of His Grace,
James, Seventh of Scots
and Second of England & Ireland.
Initially the Armies of Scotland and England (remember, they were two separate entities at this period) remained loyal to James following the invasion by William of Orange.
The Army I plan is as follows, if anyone can assist with missing uniform details I'd be grateful:
C-in-C His Grace, James VII & II
Scots
Divisional Commander Major-General Thomas Buchan
Brigade Commander ?
King’s Scots Footguards
Colonel Hon. James Douglas
Red coats, white facings, tin buttons, white breeches and stockings, fur caps for grenadiers
No historical evidence they attempted to remain loyal to James, but can’t have my sovereign without his Guards, can I?
Royal Scots
Red coats, white facings, grey breeches and stockings, tin buttons, fur caps for grenadiers
Mutinied and disarmed in 1689 for remaining loyal to James. Lt. Col Sir Robert Douglas suspended in december 1688 for refusing to acknowledge Schomberg as Colonel.
Assumed Douglas led the Regt. to Scotland.
Royal Scots Fusiliers
Col Francis Fergus O’Farrell
Red coats, red facings, grey breeches and stockings, brass buttons, fur caps
No evidence these ever wavered in their loyalty to William, but assumed that as other Regts. have returned to James, they have followed...
Wauchopes
Col John Wauchope
Red coats, yellow facings,
Raised by James from ex-members of the Scots Brigade who left Dutch service. Approx. one third of officers remained loyal to James - assumed they ‘converted’ the rest of the Regt.
Brigade Commander ?
Scots Militia (Perth)
Predominantly red coats, white facings, probably tin buttons, blue bonnets
Scots Militia (Edinburgh)
Some red coats, majority civilian coats, white facings, probably tin buttons, blue bonnets

Sir John MacLean of Duart

Divisional Commander James FitzJames, Duke of Berwick
Brigade Commander ?
King’s Lifeguards
Red coats, white facings (officers red), blue breeches, brass buttons, blue housings
Prior to the Union did not attend the sovereign outside Scotland. Assumed that with James’ arrival in Scotland they would remain loyal...
Royal (Scots) Regiment of Horse (Claverhouse’s)
Red coats, yellow facings, buff breeches, brass buttons, red housings. ‘trumpeters and kettledrummers to wear James’ own livery’ - as James’ colours were red and yellow, should we assume yellow coat with red facings?
Marched into England in 1688 to oppose William, disbanded early 1689. Assumed made it’s way back to Scotland in ’88.
Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons (the Grey Dragoons; Scots Greys)
